I have finally got my butt down to write about my Mexico trip(as promised).I got the photos over the weekend, and they have come out real nice. Made me wanna go back to Mexico(away from the crap London weather).

Anyways, it was a 2 week trip, 4 of us went, and it was heavily planned out months in advance(down to the coach timings)However this was necessary due to the amount of ground we wanted to cover, with the little time we had. I lost count of the number of people in Mexico who stared at us in amazement at our itenary!  Eyecrazy.gif

We flew into Cancun(which is so touristy, that you would think you had landed in the States), and then took an internal flight to Mexico City the next morning.(day 2)
This is where we hit our only snags(1 was my fault, 1 wasn't)
I left my pair of glasses in the taxi to the airport(which meant that I had to make sure I dont lose or break my 2'nd pair for the remainder of the trip), and our flight was cancelled. We were put on another flight 4 hours later-and so we wasted 1 day of our very tightly scheduled holiday-although we made up for it by drinking alcohol at 9.30 in the morning. drinkup.gif
It was that evening in Mexico City when the earthquake happened-mambo has already told you guys what happened.
The next day(day 3), we spent going around Mex City, visiting the museums and castles(probably squeezed in 3 days worth of sight seeing in 1 day)
Mambo's friend took us out to dinner and tequilla that night and invited us back to his place for dinner the next evening(which was very kind of him )
Spent day 4 going to the ruins near Mexico City. They are called Teotihucan and are quite amazing really! The view from the top of the pyramids is breathtaking.
We took a coach to Oaxaca the next day. This was a 7 hour journey and reached there in the evening. This town was best place I visited in Mexico. They have this most amazing market, it's very big(about 4 times the size of freemark in Nbi), and it has absolutely everything. I tried the fried grasshoppers there-and they were absolutely amazing. It's fried with salt and lemon and you get a very nice tangy taste.
We took a day tour the following day(day 6), where we visited a small ruin(Mitla), a spring water spa(where most of Mexico's mineral water comes from(the view was amazing from the top of the rocks) and saw the widest tree in the world(58m in circumference)
Took an overnight bus to San Cristobal that evening(12 hours of stomach churning hills and valleys). We were very exhausted but luckily San Cristobal was only a stop over so we took it easy that day.
On day 8 we took another stomach churning bus journey to Palenque(but this was just 4 hours)
Got there late afternoon, and wandered around the town. The more we were travelling east the more touristy it got-however Palenque is quite a nice town. We took a day tour the next day(day 9) to the famous Palenque ruins and also visited a couple of waterfalls!! This was a great day-the waterfalls were fantastic, we went round the back of one of them(You could feel the power of the water), and the ruins are set in the middle of a jungle(or rather a jungle has grown round it). They had to excavate the site and the view from the top of the pyramids was lovely.I reckoned that this was the best ruin we visited in Mexico. badass.gif
We got onto an overnight bus to Merida(11 hours), however this wasn't too bad as most of it was on flat land!  Got into Merida and walked around the town. There isn't too much to do in Merida. Did not have a late night in preparation for the very early bus to Chitchen Itza-thats one of the most famous ruins in Mexico.
Took the 6.30 bus in the morning as they say it's best to go there before the crowds come from Cancun(or the pesky Americans). Spent about 4 hours there and then headed for our last destination... Playa del Carmen. Thats a town by the Carribbean sea-and we spent the last 2 days chilling by the beach!!! Which was absolutely lovely after all the travelling-and that was the trip!!!

So, had a great time there, the people were fantastic and very friendly, the food was divine, especially all the fruits the served on the streets, and they put chilli and salsa on the fruits as well!! The most amazing taste I experienced was chilli and salsa on sugar cane!!! Simply out of this world-you gotta try it to believe it!!
The Mexico City metro system is simply the best-it puts the London Underground to shame and the beach(as much as I hate to say it) is much better than Mombasa!!! Its taken me a week to put this together so that accounts for the extra delay!! Anyways hope you guys enjoy reading about my trip!!-it's not the best literature but I have never been good at that sort of thing......

WOW!!  Sounds like you had a great time compacting a years worth of touring into 2 weeks..  great run down hum.. makes you want to jump on the next plane fly down to Mexico..

Glad you didn't get bushwacked by the earthquake.. hihi.gif
Mambo
er, what castles exactly did you visit in Mexico!?  ???    :whackya:

yeah, the beaches are amazing, aren't they? Diani beach is the only one that comes closest to the picture perfect beaches they have in Cancun and on that coast. In fact the most amazing spot i found was the beach at the Tulum ruins.

Well that was a slip of tongue(or keyboard) I meant the palace-although everything there was in spanish and didnt offer English tours-so we had to make do with assumptions!!!
