Alrighty my very very close eehemm  and I are planning a holiday
No kids just he and I  (this time)
I've been browsing through various sites trying to get a handle on places to go. .. nothing decided yet..
however I have come across several offering apartments or villas instead of staying at hotels.
Have any of you wonderful forum members done this for a change?
Is it cost effective as compared to imclusive?
Would you recomennd this? What are some of the pitfalls or advantages..
We are planning around August.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated and I'll send you a postcard.
What everybody's away? :fight: just when you think you can hook up with your forum friends
I'm just kidding.. ohhhh Mbaka camping in the mountains sounds like fun.. sharing one sleeping bag :hehe:
Sooz I liked the site you provided.... I'm going to send it off to him today.
Just get a couple of bikes, ride along the countryside.. he's worked really hard these past few months ........just some good down time..

Yes KAT, where? My reply depends very much on this. If it's the south of France, for example, I would say definitely rent a villa/apartment because the local produce markets are wonderful. Although the good places will already have been rented since last summer!
I really enjoy staying in hotels when I'm on holiday because I don't have to cook...
Again, depending where you're heading, there are other alternatives - eg the "gîte" system in France (a bit like bed and breakfast but evening meals also served in many, others self-catering).
Sounds to me like lots of you forumistas are Europe bound. I'll tell you of home, Kenya. Here, at the North cost you will find small heavens. Picturesque beaches, Swahili coastal hospitality( d'y have any idea what I mean by that, it's nowhere but at the Kenya coast).
If you are out honey-mooning, you get to ride the wind together here, you get to rock the boat on the islands.
For meditation, you watch the sun rising early in the morning, and see it setting late in the evening. The sensation is uplifting. You suddenly want to live ten life times, if this is what life offers..and you can capture all of it by photos.
Talk of cuisine and think in the light of five star quality. However, I must point out that you had better watch your purse excitation rate( I mean, how juicy do you let your money run out from the purse)
And, for a treat for just the two of you, you can rent a villa, on one of the islands.
Now all you out there have probably forgotten about Malindi! Sweet Malindi gives you all you will need on earth when you suddleny went up, met the Wizard of Oz and he handed you another lease of life.
If you are interested, I will get samples for you; I mean rates, facilities, locations, transports etc. ???

Isla Mujeres, off Cancun, Mexico. Laid back island, completely different from the excess of Cancun. Not much to do apart from beach, travelling around the small island on a moped, hanging out and living the Mexican life. And there's always plenty to do on a day trip to the mainland, if you fancy it. It can make a fantastic holiday - spent four months there. There are hotels, and I think you can hire some apartments. There's bound to be info on the web...e.g http://www.isla-mujeres.net/acomhomesandapts.htm
Thanks Doc.. he's in Kenya right now.. he's been very busy travelling to various places in regards to his business.
He's spends the majority of his time there and other times outsde.. in Canada etc.. we thought just as a getaway to find someplace for a couple of weeks do a little sightseeing, biking and.. dancing of course
Malindi is so nice.. that will probably be a vacation with the kids sometimes.
I'm looking up some info on the Seychelles.. I was there once too gorgeous beautiful .. Has anyone been to Mauritius?

KAT if you want to come to Europe for your Holiday, how about meditarrenian.
you can get real cheap packaged holiday in Malloca. I think all you need is a hotel for this kind of holliday. You need lots of free time. No cooking nothing except you two.
Portugal would also be nice and cheap.
Actually portugal is in now for Romantic holidays.
Tell us where in Europe you would like to go, then we will look for good prices
Welcome KAT. Any of guys when you come to Kenya and you need something in the light of where to stay, just let me know.
Exactly like that stick a pin blinfolded,, but we did discuss Europe not set place really just to get some nice alone time
- Sooz France sounds lovely as does yours Mbaka. My family doctor is leaving for Portugal next week..
My neice was there when she was working as a nanny for a British family she said it was absolutely gorgeous..
Mexico.. hmm not a bad idea either Mambo he suggested Costa Rica he'd been there before on business..
Decisions decisions..
I love Greece......beautiful romantic *sigh*
Being since we both have children and those who do have we are trying to work within a budget -
So I initially thought of the apartment.....which might cut back on the cost a little..
Oh forget that We'll come set up camp in Sooz's backyard, stay there for a few days.. hop on a train camp in Mbaka's for a bit then press on to Switzerland to Mosud and his wife

Humdul, that sounds nice, sigh...
KAT I will be in Oz in August, somewhere between Alice Springs and Darwin right in the middle of the continent. Otherwise you would have been welcome to stay in my backyard!
Re France. We always avoid the Mediterranean coast (and other tourist traps) in summer - it is just too crowded. But can highly recommend the Pyrenees mountains, the Auvergne region, or the Jura (close to Switzerland), any of the Alpine regions are glorious in summer and not overcrowded. If you really need a beach, try the Atlantic Coast.
Gîtes de France website
A friend's brother (English) has just opened a gîte in the Dordogne region (SW France, really super, and great food). I can get details for you if you're interested.
Have been to Portugal only once but it is very nice. Lisbon is a great city.
Malta is good too - I've been to the island of Gozo - very cheap. You can rent refurbished farmhouses, cheap apartments. No problem with languages (English spoken).
There you go ... just some thoughts!

KAT
July and August i will be away too. We are shooting a new film for our company advertising. I will be in Irland, Norway, Spain and Portugal.
Perahps we can meet somewhere else in Europe but unfortunetly, not in Germany.
By the way, August is a very expensive month in Europe for Tourists. But like Sooz says the mountains are nice too and i think not too expensive then.
But i can't imagine you flying all the way from canada to camp in European mountains. How Boring!
