LAst week i made a road trip from mombasa to tanga. As we got off the likoni ferry we passed likoni township and then diani and ukunda. We also passed what was then the booming ramisi sugar plantations. This area is now totally barren due to underfarming and our tattered sugar industry. the road is well tarmacked up to lunga lunga (kenyan side) but showing signs of ageing and wear. Our border post does not have any electricity though so they switch on a generator in the evenings. The tanzanian border post on the other side is well equpped with nice clean offices and modern amenities and also not stop supply of electricity. The road to tanga is a murram road and it has always been like that. But thiss is all changing they are putting full tarmac roads all the way to tanga. Once we reached tanga all the roads onwards to Daressalam are carpets of tarmac and amazingly well maintained. What i am trying to put forward is that how low a Kenyan can feel when crossing the border , this is because all the improvements the government in Tanzania is putting forward on their infrastructure, the kenyan government has totally ignored. Now we can see some new tanzanian companies giving old Kenyan giants a run for their money. Did you ever stop and imagine that how much more efficient the country and industries would be if the roads connecting our towns and those connecting to our neighbours were well maintained.

Jaxx, there's always been a problem with the roads!!! Kenya has lost so much money through the bad road conditions, the lost man hours through broken down trucks, lost revenue from Uganda who now direct many of their shipping goods to Dar, etc..... Infrastructure should be the first priority for the government!!! Once that is in place, Kenya will get foreign investors, and it all will start to fall in place!!

Heres an idea for you Jaxx, how about these old Kenyan giants contributing financially to the construction of these new roads - afterall it's them who are going to benefit from them more than anyone else (hint hint)

Not forgetting that the roads in kenya are in such condition b/c the old Giants pocketed the road Constraction money. They should put it back on the roads, kwisha!

I wonder if moi is going to run away from kenya when it comes to pay or stay and buy his Amnesty by Constracting Roads. That would be a deal.
