The decision of which club/entertainment establishment to visit during my stay in Kenya is begining to confuse me. So, I am soliciting the suggestions of those in the know (with experience) for suggestions.

Requirments:
Drinks, food, entertainment.

I want to go to at least two different places in Nairobi.
I also want to go to a place in Eldoret.

The single place with the most suggestions will be the one that I will make every attempt to visit. (so please steer me in the right direction)

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I 'don't know what it is called, but there is club near the airport of NBO, we had lunch there because there were riots because of the constitution. We missed the carnivore unfortunately. It was a very big thing, and there use to come black and white, and every name in African music was on the stage. ( Marian Makeba, Kofi Olomide, Femi Kuti etc. etc.) It was a big club, with a big dancefloor, and with good music. It used to be packed at fridays and saturdays.

I just don't remember the name! it looked great!

The club with no name near the airport. Got it!

I only know the club scene in Nairobi.

I still say that Carnivore (out near Langata, hang a right at the Uchmi Hyper) is a hoot. OK, it's touristy, but they often have live bands playing - including much of the top local talent. I've seen a lot of good artists there - E-Sir, Mr Lenny, The Prime Ministers, The Longombas, Redsan, whatsherface that had the song "He's a Liar" that was popular last year... bunch of others I can't name at the moment.

Pavement up in Westlands, is also kinda fun. Good restaurant up front where they have bands play on some nights (Thursday is Salsa night if I remember right), and a big club in back.

I usually pick up a nightlife guide which lists what's playing for the month, and what's going on at the various clubs and venues in Nairobi.

Drinks... you can't go to Kenya, and not have a big glass of Passion Fruit juice... or 10... or 20... :-) - make sure you get the fresh made stuff. It's addictive!

Food... if you like fish, then definitely go for a Tilapia. It's really nice white fish - tastes a bit like trout, and is usually served covered with a sauce (tomatoes, onions, garlic, corriander etc I think), and ugali on the side. Mmmmm can't wait to go back and have it again.

If you're into the fast food scene.... Nandos, or is it Pizza2Go... makes an excellent Peri-peri chicken pizza.

Mandazi in the morning with a nice hot cup of milky sweetened Kenyan tea is also quite tasty.

Carnivore is great - especially for food!!! You have the usual joints like Pavement, Gypsies etc.. These are in westlands where there is alot of nighlife. Good area for restaurants as well. Depends on what you are after really. Lots of casinos there-again mainly in westlands. There are mzungu joints as well-like the barn. Eldoret-not a clue. Are you going to mombasa at all??

I want to go to Mombasa, but do not if I'll get there or not. I have been told to "let the day take care of itself." So, you if have suggestions for Mombasa, I'll take them.

ok mate!! Here goes - For clubbing - Mamba is the best in the business. Lots of beach bars on both North and South Coast. If you do go to Mombasa, go to the South Coast - much better beach. Although it takes more time to get into town than North Coast. Places to eat.... You have got to try Tamarind dhow (North Coast). There are quite a few Italian joints in South Coast - most have pretty decent food. You can do a dolphin safari(south coast). Its quite nice. Loads of watersports. You must go into town and go to light house. Its on the edge of msa town, overlooking the sea and is a social gathering spot in the evenings. Try the roasted cassava and maize there. very nice. As Smaug said, the mandazi, or in msa, the mahamri and kahawa(swahili coffee) is really good. you need to go to the old town to get the original taste. I might have strayed now, but I have posted something about msa food in the food forum, that might give you ideas.

KAT,

Oh yeah, that! Uh..... well...... I may a few minutes to spare before I leave the airport to go to my first destination. Maybe I can squeeze the ceremony and the honeymoon in there somewhere.

Just kidding.

Don't worry,..... that is first and foremost on my mind. banana_1.gif

Perhaps Bonga is searching for City Cabanas on Mombasa Road...? Here is a website with some good introductory info about Nairobi....

And I thought I knew my Kenya laugh.gif huh! Anyway while in Coast don't forget Malindi, I call it the Kenyan Sodom, it's dead during the day but at night life springs up. I don't know if they still have the same clubs that I went to back then, I went to these two then (Stardust & Club 28), they may have others now, it's been awhile, and just for laughs you can pass through Kilifi and see how the women tie stuff on their butts to make them look bigger, what they call mahando...pretty cute...u come across the biggest butts but the legs underneath them are so tiny, anyway don't forget to take a safari, those were my joys then...some lodges have pretty cool clubs where you can hang out that are just out of this world, you know in life you need some quiet time...I would suggest a safari even if it is just for 2 days, you will never forget it. Have fun though, Kenya is a beautiful country with beautiful people who know what FUN is.

You mean if the house DJ and the drunk 'VIP's' (Do you know who I am) didn't turn you off first! What about the helipad for Prezzo? Oh well I suppose it concentrates most of the "VIP"'s in one place so we know how to avoid them! laugh.gif
