Thanks for the link. Yep, it has brilliant photographs, West Africa really is a fantastic part of Africa and I can't wait to get there... some day cool.gif

As the site is in frames, you can't link to photos properly, but I dug out this link for this photo I happened to come across in the River Niger section. Its an example of the amazing colours and scenes out of Mali. As always with photography, there is a fine line - and you have to ask yourself whether the first woman in the photo is saying No or Hi! wink.gif

These pictures are fantastic! I wonder how tourism is doing in Mali. They may not have wildlife as we know it, but what they have is far more richer culturally than East Africa. I shouldn't be surprised, historically, their culture is very well documented. It spans centuries. You look at the architecture and the design which has changed much, yet is still contemporary.

Mambo, hard to tell in that photo whether or not the woman is happy to be in the picture. But the others are all laughing or smiling so you get an overall impression of compliance. Having said that you should see the look on my face when my husband takes photos of me going about my daily chores mad.gif

Mtaalam if there is such a thing as a tourism hotspot in West Africa, its Mali. You are right, culturally Mali goes back a long way. Travellers have always been drawn there with the legends of Timbuktu etc. With East Africa, culture developed mainly along the coast and never really got inland. Look at the wealth of culture an dhistory to be found today in places like Lamu and Zanzibar.

But Mali still remains an exotic destination and I dont think overall tourist numbers are very high. Its an expensive place to get to as well.

sooz, maybe you should put on a colourful sarong while doing the dishes... laugh.gif
