Wakiihuri the musician

I got an unexpected and surprising email last week. It was from Douglas Wakiihuri, of all people. Now, anyone who knows anything about Kenyan athletics will know the name. Before Paul Tergat, Wakiihuri was probably the most famous Kenyan marathoner, being the World Champion in 1987 and the Olympic silver medallist in Seoul '88. His story is even more remarkable because of the Japanese angle, in that he went to Japan to be coached and practically became a Japanese, training and living there. As far as I know, he's been there for over two decades and is still there.

But Wakiihuri is much more than a marathoner! He is also a musician and is shortly to release his second album in Japan. There's a lot more info and pics on his site here. Wakiihuri has joined Mambogani, probably our most famous member that I know of, and I'm hoping to meet him in Tokyo when I'm there in a couple of weeks time!
